Well by the time this comes out in print, the Australia Day celebrations will have been held.
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and paid their respects to past and present Australians both young and old.
I attended the celebrations held at the Wingham High School's Multi Purpose Centre.
Due to COVID restrictions numbers were limited to 200 and with the weather being warm it was a very pleasant venue. Many thanks to school principal Paul Ivers for allowing the use of the school hall.
Tinonee triangle tidy up
Many thanks to the person/persons who took it upon themselves to give the entrance from Taree into Tinonee, known as the 'Tinonee triangle', a bit of a spruce up with a mow in readiness for visitors prior to the Australia Day weekend. Another day doing the weeding would have it looking great.
The beautiful red gum trees were showing off their flowers and the sculpture by local Biripi artist Uncle Russell Saunders is still an important feature.
Apologies
In my notes of last week I mentioned the upcoming visit to Tinonee by Stephen Bromhead on Thursday, February 4 to commence at 9am in the Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall.
The original date had to be changed from February 2 but I didn't do the time change from 9am to 10am.
My apologies to Stephen, and I do hope those who intend coming will note this change of time for the meeting.
Bushfire Cuppa and Chat afternoon
This was held at the Tinonee Hall on Tuesday, January 19 from 1pm-3pm.
I popped in to check that everything was okay for those MidCoast Council members and representatives from the various organisations who were on hand to assist those who were seeking help.
I believe they had only a small number of folk take up the offer of the help.
Railway Cottage, Wingham
Bill Beach and his colleagues are still hoping they will have some locals come forward with stories to tell on this great item of Wingham historical heritage.
If you feel you have something of interest regarding the cottage/railway station, please contact Bill on his Mobile 0415 202020 or via his email tridentlease@bigpond.com.
He would be very pleased to talk to you about it.
Tinonee Museum meeting
Members of the Tinonee Historical Society are reminded that they will be holding their first monthly meeting for 2021 at the museum on Thursday, January 28 commencing at 7.30pm.
