The New Year has come and weather wise it has been much better than this time last year when the area was being ravaged by bushfires and very hot weather - as they say what a difference a few months make. Everyone is now busy getting gardens going, lawns being mowed and the farmers have plenty of green feed and their dams are full. Hopefully 2021 is a great year for all.
Passing of locals
Two well known locals have passed in the last couple of weeks.
Mrs Alice Elizabeth Mitchison of Tinonee died on December 20 at the grand age of 93 years.
Alice was predeceased by husband Jim, and was a much loved mum to Merrilyn (dec), Peter, Val, Elizabeth and Maurice (dec), Susan and Michael, Rob and Jenny and a devoted grandma to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Alice and family were great supporters of the Biggest Morning Tea for cancer research, holding many of these days at their farm on the outskirts of Tinonee.
One of Mondrook's icons and much respected residents, Robert 'Bob' Ezzy died on Tuesday January 5 at the age of 78 years after a short illness.
Bob is survived by loving wife Margaret (nee Gollan), son Brad and wife Lynda and their young family, and daughter Josie and husband Tony and their family. Bob will be sadly missed by many, including his sister Kay and he was predeceased by his sister Rae.
Bob will be remembered by many as he was principal of Cundletown Public School for many years before his retirement and was involved in local sports of hockey and football in his early years.
Bob enjoyed his retirement on his Mondrook property and his passion was his herd of Brangus cattle.
Local Wingham resident for almost 60 years and a loyal and dedicated Wingham CWA member, Mrs Shirley June Geelan passed away on December 28 aged 90 years.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Chris who passed away in 1998 and a loving mum to daughter Annette and husband Kim, son Greg and wife Deirdre, and nan and great nan to six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Shirley was a long standing member of the Wingham RSL Ladies Auxiliary and a tribute was paid to Shirley's membership by Lyn Turner.
A number of Shirley's fellow Wingham CWA members were in attendance and I represented Wallamba CWA Branch having known Shirley for over 30+ years.
To the family and friends of Alice, Robert and Shirley, I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences on their passing. May they rest in peace.
