Back in round one of the Under 18's competition, Wingham played Old Bar Beach at Old Bar and the result was an 18-18 draw.
On Sunday they met again in the Grand Final at the Wingham Sporting Complex.
Midway through the first quarter, a long break by Ryan Young led to a try in the corner by Liam Phillips. Hayden Essery converted the try from the sideline for a 6-0 advantage.
Just before the first break, the Pirates scored in the corner to trail 6-4.
Then just prior to the main break, Old Bar kicked to the corner for another try. The attempted conversion hit the post, but the visitors led by 8-6.
Ten minutes into the second half, Hayden Essery kicked to the corner for Sam McIntosh to score. Again Hayden Essery slotted the kick from out wide to put the Tigers ahead 12-8.
Seven minutes from the full time siren, the Pirates scored again following a dubious penalty. The conversion attempt shaved the outside of the posts, but the scores were locked up at 12-12.
Both teams threw everything at each other, but the scores were still level at the siren.
So it was off to golden point extra time.
Six minutes into this period, Hayden Essery kicked a field goal from over 30 metres out, and the Tigers had won!
Congratulations to coach Paul Lewis and his team on a great effort.
Wingham 13 defeated Old Bar Beach 12 (Liam Phillips, Sam McIntosh tries, Hayden Essery 2 goals and a field goal).
