Pubs and nightclubs in the greater area of the Islandic capital Reykjavik will be shut down for four days, Health Minister Svandis Svavarsdottir says, reacting to rising coronavirus infection numbers in the region.

The measure was adopted on recommendation of chief epidemiologist Thorolfur Gudnason, who said that many among the newly infected had previously visited bars and nightclubs in Reykjavik.
Future measures will be considered after the developments of the weekend are reviewed.
Iceland has recorded 2230 coronavirus infections and 10 deaths, including that of an Australian tourist.
While the country managed to successfully flatten the curve in the early northern summer, the number of cases began to rise again on the island at the end of July.
On Thursday and Friday, the country reported its highest numbers of daily new infections since the beginning of April, with 19 and 21 cases respectively.
