The southern state recorded the majority of the county's 233 new cases, with most of the 217 cases recorded from metropolitan Melbourne.
While Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton called the drop 'a relief' authorities warned against complacency.
"We need to remember it's still a high number," Mr Hutton said. "It's a number that would have shocked us all a month ago."
Despite the drop, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Saturday the risk was too high for parliament's August sitting.
Mr Morrison said acting Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly had advised him that allowing a "high-risk group of individuals" into Canberra for the next sitting fortnight "could jeopardise the health situation in the ACT and place residents at unnecessary risk of infection".
The ACT, which recorded no new cases for another consecutive day on Saturday, was on high alert following two new cases of coronavirus identified on the South Coast on Friday.
A father and son returning to Sydney had tested positive to COVID-19 after visiting a Batemans Bay RSL and caravan park.
Anyone who could have come in contact with the pair was advised to make contact with the authorities in their state or territory.
NSW recorded a total of 15 new cases of COVID-19 prior to Saturday, as the state continued to respond to outbreaks linked to the Crossroads and Picton Hotels.
Of the new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Friday, five were connected to patrons who attended the Crossroads Hotel in southwest Sydney.
With the worldwide tally growing by 237,743 in 24 hours the advice around the country and the globe remained the same: stay home.
