It is a great pleasure to be asked by management to commence writing my Tinonee Topics again.
This makes it 32 years in September since I first began my writings.
Tinonee Public School
This week sees the final days of Term 2 with the teachers, staff and students all looking forward to the school holidays beginning Saturday, July 4.
In this final week the students are being encouraged to wear a beanie to school to help support the Beanies for Brain Cancer Research charity. It certainly is good weather for beanies.
Students have been conducting a chocolate fundraiser to help cover some of the Stage 3 excursion costs. I even had three polite youngsters come to my door so of course I could not refuse to buy chocolate Freddo Frogs.
I hope it was a successful endeavour and that those going on the excursion will have a wonderful time.
Many thanks to Phil Burton for replacing the original Tinonee School sign at the front entrance gate. It was looking the worst for wear and tear but is now bright and beautiful.
Next term school photos will be taken on Wednesday, August 3 and students are being asked to wear their full winter school uniforms. These photos are a wonderful keepsake. Over the years to come they will evoke many happy memories of school friends and teachers.
The school canteen has been running along smoothly thanks to the efforts of supervisor Michelle Swannack and her wonderful band of volunteers.
Michelle is always on the lookout for more volunteers, so if you can help fill the gaps for Term 3 please contact the school or Michelle for further details.
Tinonee Museum open again
After almost three months of closure, Tinonee Historical Museum re-opened on Tuesday, June 17.
Currently the Museum is only open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Last week we had a couple of visitors and phone requests for family history which was great.
Perhaps people in lock down have been looking into their lost family members.
At this stage the monthly meetings are on hold, as is the AGM which normally would be in July.
However, renewal of museum memberships, which were due at the end of May, are currently being accepted.
Fortieth birthday celebrations
Long distance 40th birthday wishes went out via telephone and card to daughter-in-law Sharona for her special day on Sunday, June 28.
Son Andrew and the children, Keala and Korben, treated Sharona to an at-home birthday celebration with a few friends on Saturday evening. We hope to be able to get up that way to see them all as soon as the borders are open again.
