Following some confusion, recreational fishing has been declared permissible by NSW Police under the public health order restrictions that were put in place on Monday, March 30.

NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller, addressed the issue at a press conference this morning, April 2, saying recreational fishing would be considered as exercise, but common sense applied.
"If fishing is your exercise you can fish, but if you end up on a wharf with 50 other people, then we get back to safe distancing and getting tickets," Mr Fuller said.
"I know there are lots and lots of what-ifs on it but there are lots of things that are classed as exercise, but if you don't need to leave home, please don't.
"But if you need a break and it is your exercise, then do it sensibly and do it quickly and return home.
"Again, police will continue to work with the community and anyone who has complied - no one's got a ticket."
The NSW Department of Industries has changed its fishing guidelines on its COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions page, after previously advising "you must stay at home, unless you are going to work and education (where you can't work remotely); shop for food and essentials; medical needs or the care of others; and exercise."
The updated advice reads: "Advice from NSW Police is that fishing is permitted, as long as people follow all other advice in relation to social distancing and gatherings of two or more people."
