The section being targeted extends from Canget Street to Isabella Street, with the project being delivered in two distinct phases to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and local traffic.
In stage one, works will be undertaken to rehabilitate and resurface the road pavement between Canget and Farquhar Streets, as well as replacing deteriorated kerb and gutter on both sides, and replacing the footpath on the eastern side of Primrose Street.
Commencing on Tuesday April 7 this stage is expected to continue for eight to 10 weeks, weather permitting.
Work will be conducted from 7am to 5pm weekdays. Driveway access may be restricted at times, and crews will liaise with affected property owners as required to minimise inconvenience.
Stage two will see crews move north to address the section between Farquhar and Isabella Street, where works will be undertaken outside of regular business hours to minimise disruption for nearby businesses.
In this section the road pavement will be rehabilitated and resurfaced, line-marking renewed, and the general amenity of the street improved.
"In both stages lane closures, short detours and parking restrictions can be expected, and local motorists are reminded to be alert to changed conditions and roadworks signage while crews are on site," Rob Scott, MidCoast Council's director of infrastructure and engineering services said.
It is expected both stages of the project will be completed by the end of June 2020.
Further works are already being planned nearby in Farquhar and Isabella Streets and these are likely to be scheduled after completion of the works in Primrose Street.
