The message is simple according to Manning Great Lakes Police District Commander Superintendent Shane Cribb- be sensible, be responsible, know your limits and look out for your mates.
"Police are working with event organisers to ensure this year's Australia Day is family-friendly and enjoyable for all attending," Superintendent Cribb said
"Party-goers are urged to plan ahead of this year's celebrations and to check event websites for details on alcohol free zones, road closures and venue details.
"Criminal and antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated, anyone found to be ruining the event for others will feel the full force of the NSW Police."
With Operation Safe Return underway from January 24 until January 27, double demerits will be enforced.
"Highway patrol officers will be out in force targeting drink-driving, so if you're thinking of having a drink, leave your car at home and catch public transport," Superintendent Cribb said.
"Marine Area Command police will also be targeting alcohol related crime on our waterways and are reminding skippers that the same drink-driving rules apply on the water as they do on our roads."
