About 14 people from the Sri Lankan community of Newcastle visited Taree earlier this week to cook 450 meals for bushfire victims, firefighters and BlazeAid volunteers.
The group contacted the GlobalCare Taree branch through organisation Foodbank Australia to see if their assistance was required.
After they made the short trip up the Pacific Highway, the group got to work at the Resonate Church in Taree to create a delicious array of meals such as butter chicken, curry chicken, pasta, rice and poppadoms.
The word from GlobalCare was the food was 'absolutely beautiful' and provided a welcome boost to those affected by the bushfire crisis and those who are working hard in its aftermath.
Some of the bushfire victims from areas such as Caparra, Hillville and Bobin joined with Rural Fire Service (RFS) firefighters from Taree, Tinonee, Burrell Creek, Lansdowne, Harrington, Old Bar, Coopernook, Rainbow Flat and Wallabi Point to enjoy the food.
Meals were also packed into a ute and transported to BlazeAid volunteers and other firefighters. Due to the overwhelming amount of food, this took two trips.
The food was packed into takeaway containers so they could be frozen for firefighters to keep at their respective stations and eat at a later date.
The Newcastle based group also brought up supplies such as water, tinned food, underwear and socks for bushfire victims while toiletries were given to firefighters.
