Bent on Food is a regular finalist in the State awards, and normally proprietor Donna Carrier would attend the awards ceremony in Sydney. This year, however, she elected not to go because of the bushfires that were hammering our area.
"When I heard that we'd won a silver I was pretty excited, although I wasn't there because of everything that was happening in the community, and I wanted to be here with the community," Donna said.
"It was a good news story that I couldn't quite tell straight away but I feel like it's okay to tell it now.
"It's nice to hear that the team's been doing such a good job and keeping Wingham in the press for other reasons than the fires!
"We're pretty excited and chuffed because it's 30 years of NSW Tourism Awards, so it's a big year for them and good for us.
"A silver this year was really good because it was new players, not the same businesses that we're up against, because I think some of the businesses that we would normally be up against went into the Hall of Fame because they've won so many years in a row. So it was a new lot of businesses that were still really high quality and high profile so we're pretty happy with little old Bent on Food winning silver," Donna said.
