St John's Anglican Church in Taree is inviting the community to take part in the 'Blue Cross Festival of Christmas Trees' for the second year running.

"This event is run in many places throughout Australia and around the world, providing a wonderful Christmas display, so we are hoping to encourage as many people as possible to enter a tree and to visit," said Father Peter Tinney.

Around the world the Festival of Christmas Trees is seen as a community building exercise, and often raises funds for charity.

For a small entrance fee Christmas trees are decorated by groups, businesses, or individuals. They may be decorated to highlight a particular theme, or in a more traditional way.

Once trees are decorated they will be on display to the public daily from Saturday December 7 until Sunday December 15, from 10am to 3pm.

The church will be opened each day over the week so that people can visit for a gold coin donation, explore the display, and vote for their favourite.

"We encourage groups, aged care facilities and others to visit and enjoy the display," Fr Peter said.

The display will be officially opened on Friday, December 6 at 6.30pm by Bishop Charlie Murry.

"Last year the beautiful church of St John the Divine provided a wonderful venue for a variety of amazing trees and this year the opening event will be further enhanced with the U3A Silver Tones choir who will share their music and assistn in creating an enchanting evening," said Fr Peter.

The Festival will conclude on Sunday December 15 with the traditional service of Lessons and Carols at 6.30pm.

To enter a tree obtain an entry from from www.tareeanglican.org.au or email officestjohnstaree@gmail.com, call in at the church office on Thursdays at 10am, or from the Blue Cross Shop at 43 Manning Street.

Entry is $10 and the form must be returned by December 1. Setup of trees will be on Thursday or Friday December 5/6 between 10am and 3-pm. Pack up of trees must be Monday December 16 from 10am to 3pm.

All proceeds of the Festival of Christmas Trees will go to the Blue Cross Emergency Relief fund.
