At that stage Magpies had the upper hand by having Wingham 2 for 28 chasing Magpies 232.
Magpies won the toss and elected to bat.
They got away to a bright start through Luke Boxhall and Sean Minns (8).
Big-hitting Minns was first to go when caught by Tobi Polley off Steve Allwood.
Boxhall hit five boundaries in making 30 before he was caught behind off a Josh McTaggart bouncer.
After taking some stick early on Allwood replied with the wickets of Ben Paix (16) and Tim Harris (10) to get Wingham back into the match with the visitors 4/72 after 14 overs.
But over the next 21 overs youngsters Tom Paix and Zac Jones combined in a fifth wicket partnership of 116 to set up Magpies innings.
Jones was the aggressor in hitting 44 in boundaries in his score of 62, whilst Paix collated seven fours in top scoring with 83.
McTaggart and Dave Rees picked up the wickets of Sam Jones and Adam Broderick in the final overs to restrict Magpies to a competitive but gettable total.
Allwood (3/46) and McTaggart (3/42) were the leading wicket-takers with Rees finishing with 2/51 of the depleted Wingham bowling attack missing skipper Mick Rees, Rhett MacGregor and Mick Stinson.
In the absence of Rees, stand-in skipper Ryan Morris and former-captain Ben Scowen shouldered much responsibility in setting up the Wingham innings against the strong Magpies attack.
Unfortunately that was not to be with Scowen, who made an unbeaten 96 in his previous trip to the crease, going from being 'King Rooster to feather duster,' as one team-mate put it after failing to score.
Morris also failed when he slashed at a wide ball and was caught at slip for 2. McTaggart (13x) and Ben Cole (5x) were at the crease when play was interrupted in the eighth over.

Making news
Meanwhile two former Wingham cricketers celebrate highlights of their careers in totally different ways this week.
Former Wingham first grader, Jonathon Craig-Dobson, made his long-awaited first-grade debut for St George in the Sydney Premier League match against Penrith. Jonathon was presented with cap number 452 prior to start of play. 'Jonno', an allrounder, performed creditably with 7 runs and 0/22 bowling first change. Proud mum Catherine and ex-Wingham legends Matt and Hayden Essery were on hand to witness the occasion. Craig-Dobson is the first Wingham player to make Sydney first grade since Ben Jonas over a decade ago.
On the other hand, multi-talented athlete, Grahame Stinson will line up in the NSW Open Golf Championships at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club at Luddenham commencing Thursday. Stinson, who last played for Wingham in the 2016/17 Premier League season, qualified as a leading amateur following good performances in lead-up events. Stinson, a former Australasian Long Drive Champion, will be handicapped by having his brother, Mick, 'on the bag'. He has already been told that he is not required for advice on club selection and the like, just to 'carry the bag and rake the bunkers'. Good luck 'Mary'.
