According to eye care and eyewear retailer, OPSM, excessive smoke and particles in the air can cause extreme discomfort and blurry vision for not only firefighters and volunteers, but residents as well.

OPSM, in conjunction with global not-for-profit eyecare, OneSight are providing assistance and support to residents suffering genuine hardship, along with emergency service personnel who have been affected by the bushfires.

OPSM also will support those fighting fires in evacuation locations and the local community by delivering lubricating eye drops to major evacuation points in each fire affected areas.

Community members who are also feeling the effect of smoke from the surrounding fires can visit their OPSM Taree store to obtain eyedrops.

OPSM eyecare and community Australia and New Zealand director, Peter Murphy said eyedrops were crucial in rectifying any discomfort or blurry vision from excessive smoke and dust particles in the air.

"We want to provide service and care the best way we can to OPSM customers, but also to anyone in serious needs from the bush fires," Mr Murphy said.

"We're encouraging the local community to visit their local OPSM to find out, how we can best help.

"We also wanted to provide eye drops to all those affected, but especially our firefighters to help wherever we can during this devastating time."
