Choking back thick smoke and tears on Friday morning, volunteers at Wingham Showground unloaded a truck full of aid for victims of the recent bushfires.

The truck was fully laden with box after box of items a person made homeless from natural disaster may need most.
The truck was sent with love and best wishes from The Presbyterian Ladies' College (PLC) Sydney located in the inner western suburb of Croydon.
The PLC community of students, teachers and parents had rallied to help after realising one of their own students was from the bushfire ravaged area.
Charity Creek local Jennifer Kirchener, whose daughter Matilda is a Year 12 student at the boarding school, reached out to the school last Sunday after bush fires swept through the Manning and Great Lakes destroying more than 20 homes and Bobin Public School.
The response was immediate.
"We can help," PLC principal Paul Burgis said.
Furnished with a list of items most needed he called on his community to donate only new or nearly new items.
"Most of the families went out and bought new things," he said.
The school veranda was soon filled with new electrical items, linen, towels, toiletries, crockery and non perishable food.
The school's maintenance staff got to work coordinating all the donated goods and soon the school had also secured the use of a truck.
With the help of families and the touch football team they had it packed and off to Wingham in no time.
PLC also raised $3600 cash and forwarded donations totaling $2640 from two other Sydney schools - Trinity College and Newington Grammar School.
At Trinity, the primary aged students had raised the funds from a walkathon and had requested the money go to help the people of Bobin.
"I hope it's all very helpful," said Paul.
"We just want your readers to know you're not alone."
