In this round of timber bridge replacements Little Cedar Party Creek Bridge on Comboyne Road is being targeted, along with Emu Creek Bridge at Bulahdelah, Burrell Creek Bridge, and Bungwahl Bridge at Possum Brush.
Complementing the works that are soon to commence, four additional bridge replacements will kick off in December 2019 and January 2020. These will result in new two-lane concrete bridges, and reconstruction of road approaches, at:
- Diamond Bridge on Mooral Creek Road in Wingham
- Kundle Creek Bridge on Wallanbah Road in Bucca Wauka
- Wards River Bridge on Terreel Road, Weismantels
- Reltons Bridge on Johnsons Creek Road, Wards River
All four projects are expected to continue concurrently over six months, with the full suite due for completion by June 2020.
In other bridge works underway, construction of a new 36.45 metre bridge on Callaghans Creek Road at Cundle Flat is nearing completion. The new bridge replaces a timber structure that had been dismantled for safety reasons. Also due for completion in November is the replacement of Cedar Creek Bridge on Willina Road at Bunyah.
"The timber bridges found throughout the MidCoast are not only well past their serviceable life, they're expensive to maintain," MidCoast Council's Rhett Pattison said.
Along with improved safety outcomes and reduced ongoing maintenance costs, the replacement of timber bridges with modernised structures provides an opportunity to address flood immunity, allowing for continued access during heavy rain events. In some cases, load restrictions can be removed providing improved access for the local community.
Further information about these projects, and impacts on local traffic, will be made available at www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/roads once the works are due to commence.
