Wingham had the opening round bye and will make their season's debut at Cedar Party Reserve tomorrow against Taree West.
"I think our bowling is about the same as last season, but we'll have a stronger batting side I reckon,'' captain Michael Rees said.
Wingham dominated the pre-Christmas section last season but fell away badly post-Yuletide and failed to make the grand final. Inconsistent batting was one of the team's problems.
However, Rees said the return of former North Coast representative Ben Scowen this summer and the acquisition of promising all-rounder Rhett MacGregor from Leeton will help bolster the batting.
Work commitments will restrict Scowen's appearances and he won't be available tomorrow.
"We should have him every second week,'' Rees said.
"But just having him around the team is good. He's a good cricketer and a top bloke.''
MacGregor impressed with the bat and ball in a trial game and Rees said he'll also add variety to the bowling attack.
"If he doesn't open the bowling he'll be first change,'' he said.
Teenager Blake Thompson has been named in tomorrow's team. He was the leading batsman in second grade last season, scoring 495 at 41.25 and Rees said he shows plenty of promise.
Thompson will at either three or four.
Rees predicts gun batsman Ben Cole will return to his best after a moderate 2018/19 while another player from last season's premier second grade lineup, Blake Sky, has earned a call into the premier league.
"Blake's been killing it in the nets and he'll be batting in the top six,'' Rees said.
"And he lifts everyone in the field. I'll probably give him a couple of overs as well.''
Rees expects Cedar Party to again be batsman-friendly and he'll have no hesitation in batting should be win the toss.
"It looks as though Taree West will have their strongest side for a couple of years, so this should be a great game,'' he added.
"I think there'll be a lot of runs scored.''
