Wingham RSL Sub-branch open sessions on Mental Wellness for Veteran's Health Week

Wingham RSL Sub-branch is calling all veterans to visit the open sessions at the Old Courthouse in Wingham from 10am to midday during the week of October 28 to November 1, 2019 for Veterans' Health Week.

This year's Veterans' Health Week theme is 'Mental Wellness', and is designed to help veterans and current serving Australian Defence Force members and their families to recognise the signs of mental illness - and to get involved, to take action and increase their knowledge of available services and programs to maintain good mental health.

The qualified Veterans Advocacy Team from Wingham RSL Sub-branch will be available to conduct confidential interviews and provide support in relation to wellness advice, interacting with the Department of Veterans Affairs and connecting you to other support agencies.

"Since our team has been operating in the Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services premises we have been surprised to find a good many veterans who have completed their military service and returned to civilian life quietly and unassumingly," Wingham RSL Sub-branch president, Terry Gould said.

"They have either not known about, or not felt entitled to, any of the wide array of health, fellowship or wellbeing services specifically available for those who wore our nation's defence uniforms.

"This is an opportunity for those people in the Wingham and upper Manning area to get in touch with us quite informally to find out what services we can assist with fro the Department of Veterans Affairs."

You can indicate your attendance and your preferred day and time by emailing vawrslwingham@gmail.com, or just pop along for a chat and arrange for a meeting with the DVA accredited advocates in welfare, compensation and pensions. The advocates are all veterans themselves, and cover all defence services.
