Wingham batted first and did well to score 162 on a softish wicket. Left handers, Ben Cole (46 retired) and Blake Thompson (44) led the way whilst newcomer, Rhett MacGregor, chimed in with a stylish 24.

For the visitors Craig Lupton (34x) and Dan Moore (23) got Wests back in the game with a handy partnership near the end.

The bowlers blew the cobwebs out and shared the wickets around. Steve Allwood revelled in the seaming conditions despite finishing wicket-less. MacGregor, formally of Leeton and just 18 years old, looks more than handy with ball-in-hand. Unfortunately, wicket keeper, Hudson Bird re-injured his knee and will be missing for some time.

The visitors were treated to some local hospitality at the ground before adjourning to the Australian Hotel for more in-depth analysis of performances.

The local competition kicks off on October 12 with the Premier League side drawn to make a first up trip to play Kempsey Rovers at South Kempsey Oval. Premier batsman Michael Rees will again skipper the side.

Blake Sky takes over as captain of Second Grade with the unavailability of Jake Mullen. Their initial match is versus United at Central Park.

Gloucester has entered a team in the Manning Competition for the first time with Harry Clarke, who played Premier League for Wingham last season, amongst their number. They should prove very competitive with games to be played at Gloucester.

For the first time this century Wingham will field two Third grade teams. To be known as Wingham Blue and Wingham White, the club colours, they will play each other in the first round at Wingham.

Club President, Mick Stinson, said the club was pleased with the increase in player numbers and the expected rivalry will only heighten interest in cricket in the town.

Each team will contain a mix of youth and experience with captains to be finalised this week. Anyone wishing to participate should attend training at Cedar Party Reserve on Thursday afternoon.
