Last Thursday we took a drive to visit the Slim Dusty Centre on the southern side of Kempsey. We found it very interesting with lots to see. The volunteers were so helpful making our visit an enjoyable one.

I took lots of photos as we looked around. I really loved the blooms on the Slim Dusty Rose which is planted in pots around the centre entrance. We were not the only visitors and George, one of the volunteers, said they were expecting more than 100 coach passengers the next day. I highly recommend the centre.
John and I caught up with friends Don and Lyn Moy in Kempsey, after a few years out of touch. We enjoyed afternoon tea with them and all too soon it was time to head back home.
Army Band Concert
I enjoyed a pleasant Saturday afternoon along with many others at Taree's MEC watching a wonderful performance of the Newcastle Army Band. Amelia was the soloist and sang many numbers with great backing of the band. A special treat was the appearance of two Scottish pipers who thrilled the audience with their performance, The finale was the Australian anthem with all invited to join in.

My friend Carol McGann celebrated another birthday on Friday, August 16. Hope you had a lovely day and weekend with family and friends and enjoy another great year ahead.
Vietnam Veteran's Day at Wingham
John and I attended the moving service at the Wingham Town Hall on Sunday, August 18, which has become known as Vietnam Veteran's Day.
Veterans from all over Australia, who were part of 'D' Coy, joined the local veterans in a short march, under parade Commander Brian Willey. It was led by members of the Manning Valley Pipes and Drums playing Crusaders.
The Colour Party (flag bearers) at the Cenotaph were captains and vice captains from Wingham High School. Wingham RSL branch president, and master of ceremonies, Terry Gould, extended a warm welcome to visitors and members.
The prologue was delivered by Ken Onslow, who had travelled from Townsville, a former member of 11 Platoon D Coy 6 Battalion 1969. Former battalion comrade Dave Piggott delivered the address before a short wreath-laying ceremony.
Leonie Gilford represented Wingham RSL Sub-branch, Lyn Turner, of Wingham RSL Sub-branch Auxiliary, placed a white cross adorned with handmade peace poppies, and local member Peter Trad and visitor Barry Piper laid the D Coy wreath.
Prayers were led by Wingham RSL Chaplain Rev. Darrell McKeough with The Ode recited by Eric Richardson OAM Lt. Col (Ret.) Lincoln Harrell then played The Last Post followed by a minute of silence. Reveille was sounded by Lincoln on the bugle.
The program ended with the national anthem of New Zealand sung by Deirdre Sutherland and the Australian anthem led by Jodi Cooper. Later most present moved to the Wingham Services Club to have lunch and reminisce over their times of service and friendship.
The next big function for the Wingham RSL Sub-branch will be the dedication service and Centenary of Charter lunch on Saturday, September 21, from 11.30am.
