Tim Faulkner, TV personality, general manager of the Australian Reptile Park and Aussie Ark, and 2015 Australian Geographic Conservationist of the Year, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of Manning Net on August 29 at Club Taree.

Manning Net was formed to give women a forum for networking and socialising in a 'real life' chatroom.

"Wow! We are very excited, and consider ourselves extremely lucky to have Tim find time, amongst his extensive commitments, to join us in August," Manning Net member Marilyn Thomas said.

"A big thank you is due to the Year Six kids from Tinonee Public School who swayed him to visit them for their Kidspreneur projects relating to the Manning River turtle - for which he is an ambassador. The kids were tasked to write to all media, including Tim. He received 30 letters from them, and decided to visit and then come to the Manning Net meeting as well," Marilyn said.

Tim will be talking about Aussie Ark in the Barrington Tops, where the non-profit organisation has created insurance populations of Tasmanian devils, Eastern quolls, parma wallabies, Southern brown bandicoots, rufous bettongs, brush-tailed wallabies, and long-nosed potoroos.

Tim will also talk about his plans for an insurance population of the endangered Manning River helmeted turtle, endemic only to the upper and middle catchments of the Manning River. Those coming to this meeting will be getting a unique experience, as Tim will be bringing with him one of the Manning River turtles that is founding the insurance population.

The evening starts at 6.30pm at Club Taree and the cost is $25 per person, which includes a two-course meal with complimentary tea and coffee after the meal.

RSVPs are essential for catering purposes and must be made by 10am on Monday August 26. To RSVP contact Susan Ryan 6553 5150, Ruth Brown 6553 9877, or Marilyn Thomas 6551 3416, or email mazathome@ozemail.com.au.
