The existing staff are being joined by three friendly new helpers keen to put their recently learned catering skills to good use.

The trio are all participants in the Dundaloo Active program, Dundaloo's person centred day support program for people with disabilities.

They've learned all aspects of working in a cafe from making coffees, serving customers and making delicious food.

Five more trainees have started the program and will soon join the others at the cafe.

"It's part of an initiative to be able to provide more opportunities for our participants," said Dundaloo CEO Mark Drury.

The participants will work in the cafe for small periods of time with some more keen than others to face the customers.

For those a little shy to try customer service they can offer a valuable contribution behind the scenes in the kitchen.

Support worker Jane has joined the existing cafe staff to help with the transition.

"The existing staff have all been retained. They're a really good crew," said Mark.

"Jane can help them understand the participants and their needs."

The purchase of the cafe is the first of its kind for Dundaloo.

It is seen as a wonderful chance for the Dundaloo participants to do something they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to do.
