Young Scott Hatton provided one of those when he came up against the more experienced David O'Donnell. Scott in the prior round had eliminated a top bowler and in this game the result waited for a marathon 42 ends. Scott held the game when he was on 30 with David on 26, however the crafty David managed to win the final three ends to take the match 31-30.
In another tight game Graeme Ireland survived against Greg Bartlett to get to the next round with a 31-29 victory. It took Graeme 25 ends to get in front but he fell behind by five shots within three ends. Greg could only manage one further end to let Graeme off the hook.
In a game which went for 36 ends Jamie Carr goes to the next round with his 32-29 win over Peter Holden.
Tom Moore led all he way to eliminate Laurie Mullen 31-25.
Ben Walters was still in the game after 20 ends against last year's champion Col Watson with the score then being 17-16 in Ben's favour. However Col got his game together to go and win 31-21.
Steve Matheson eliminated Daniel Leadbeater 31-20.
Greg Cuttance went down 31-18 against Jake Hinton.
George Sinclair defeated Mark Hammond 31-12.
Wednesday Social
The volunteer selectors got in right with their teams with all results being a +5 on the three rinks with 16 players on the green.
Saturday Open Social
Thirteen players fought it out to win vouchers and those lucky to have their card drawn were visitors. A number of the singles game were played also.
