FORMER NRL star Matt King's one-off appearance with the Wingham wasn't only beneficial for Tigers first grade rugby league side, it also provided a windfall for Wingham Brush Public School and the Art and Soul group.

King, a close mate of first grade coach Mick Sullivan, played in the match against Port City at the Wingham Sporting Complex on Saturday April 27. A former NSW State of Origin and Australian representative, King played solidly in the centres in the game won by the Tigers 28-4.
He later donated an autographed Australian jumper and boots that were auctioned that evening. The auction realised $1600, with Wingham plumber Matt King (no relation) buying the jumper and Tigers' stalwart Michael Dawson purchasing the boots.
It was always the club's intention to make a donation to Wingham Brush. Mick Sullivan's mum, Lee Ann taught at the school for 25 years up until her death in 2005. The sport's field at the school is now named in her memory.
Wingham treasurer Craig Martin said the club heard the Art and Soul group needed funds to purchase material.
Art and Soul provides an art therapy class for veterans and Australian Defence Force personnel who use art to help them battle depression and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). The classes are conducted by local artists Ron Hindmarsh and Jillian Oliver.
"We were always going to raise funds for the school out because of the connection with Mick's mum,'' Mr Martin said.
"But we heard the Art and Soul group needed some money, so we added them out as well.''
King was a big hit with Wingham supporters, staying on the field for more than half an hour after the game for autographs and photos.
While he enjoyed the outing, King said he isn't likely to be available for another run this year. He is on the training staff with the Sydney Roosters.
