Established in 1987, Wingham Beef Week (WBW) has continued to gain momentum over the years to now be widely regarded as the premier event of its type within the state.
Wingham Beef Week president Grant Coleman reports:
"If you are a beef producer, a junior beef cattle enthusiast, a school student studying agriculture, a hobby farmer or maybe considering becoming involved in the industry, then you won't want to miss this unique event".
The event provides you, the beef producer with the opportunity to have your cattle judged on the hoof, whether led or unled, and the resultant carcase then judged on the hook, thus enabling you to benchmark your finished product against other producers and industry peers.
Even if you don't take home prize money the knowledge gained by being prepared to learn and take advantage of what other successful producers are doing and the marketability of your product will be invaluable.
This is the only event of its kind in the State where exhibitors have the rare and unique opportunity to enter Wingham Beef Export's chillers to evaluate and assess your carcases.
"At the heart of Wingham Beef Week is our commitment to foster and develop our young beef industry enthusiasts by providing hands-on education and competition," says Mr Coleman.
"We focus our efforts on educating youth with the necessary skills needed to develop a career path to becoming part of one of the country's largest industries."
With a record 420 junior competitors in 2018 the event is now widely acclaimed as the premier junior beef cattle competition in the State.
As well as being the only event of its type in the State where junior competitors can enter the Wingham Beef Export's chillers it is also worth noting that the Beef Appreciation Competition co-ordinated by the Australian Inter Collegiate Meat Judging Association (ICMJ) is one of only three such events of its type.
"Investing in the next generation is the key to ensuring the future viability of the Australian Beef Industry," says Mr Coleman.
