An emerging artist and designer, Billy has spent the past two years practising at South Australia's contemporary craft and design institution, TheJamFactory, working on new experimental sculptures and functional wares boasting colour, form and material mimicry.
"Using the bubble as a starting point, Billy plays on this balloon likeness to depict mash ups materialised in glass," said art gallery director Rachel Piercy.
"His developed mixed media approach makes use of enamels, effect paints, poscas, decals and neon light.
"We're invited to see the potential for the 'remixing of culture' that Billy explores in these works, providing an individual experience for each viewer of these unique works."
Billy James Crellin grew up in the Manning, attended Taree High School and has spent years practising his art form.
Yank, Squeeze, Bow will launch, together with the national tour of the Australian Design Centre's "Object Therapy" exhibition, on Friday April 26 from 6pm at the gallery, located in Macquarie Street, Taree.
Tickets are $10 ($7 for art gallery members), and bookings can be made online.
The exhibition will continue until June 2. The gallery is open 10am to 4pm Wednesdays to Saturdays and 1pm to 4pm on Sundays. It is closed over the Easter long weekend and Anzac Day.
