Michael Hoad wrote, "The internet is a lovely thing - John William Hoad and I are both direct descendants of Joseph Hoad and Mary Shorter of Winchelsea (England). His lot went to Australia, and mine went to Barbados. Same problem - southern England was poor.
"That means he's also related to Sir John Charles Hoad of Australia, and to my great-uncle Ernie Hoad, who was killed in the artillery in WWI.
"Anyhow, I happen to be in Philadelphia now, and thought you enjoy hearing from around the world that your piece was much appreciated," Michael wrote.
