This proved to be correct, for a shock loss to Nulla and a bye has resulted in the lead shrinking to one point going into the penultimate game of the competition-proper. Wingham will meet Rovers tomorrow at Cedar Party Reserve before finishing up with the game against United, where the minor premiership will be determined.
The possibility of rain this weekend puts further pressure on Wingham. If there's no play they'll share the points with Rovers, gifting the competition lead to United.
Wingham will be coming off the bye and Rees said they'll be at full strength.
Rees said his side's batting has been inconsistent all season.
"When we're good we're unbeatable, but when we're bad, we're terrible,'' he said.
Wingham has only lost two games this season - ironically to the two teams now at the foot of the ladder, Macquarie and Nulla.
The Kempsey-based Rovers are virtually out of the reckoning for a semi-final, however, Rees said they are a dangerous opponent.
"They're a bit like us, when they're on their game they're hard to beat,'' he said.
Rees said a win this weekend should at least lock up a top two berth.
