Being a survivor herself, Denise hopes to educate women more about the risk factors and symptoms associated with gynaecological cancers and encourage them to be more proactive with their health.
"It is important to me to talk in a smaller community like Wingham because women who experience cancer in a smaller town do not have the resources or support like we have in larger cities," Denise explained.
Denise begins her talks in Gloucester, after which she'll hold talks in Wingham and Bulahdelah, specifically choosing communities serviced by Hunter New England Health, the same health department she was treated under in Newcastle.
"I tell my story of hope and resilience to give other women hope and support, especially when they may be feeling a bit more anxious and stressed because of the distance from their treating team."
In 2008, Denise was diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma, but even after having a hysterectomy, her cancer returned, rare and aggressive, with a poor prognosis.
