I represented Tinonee and District Red Cross Branch at the Wingham Red Cross February meeting.
Northern region Red Cross manager Janelle Cazaubon was present to discuss the possibility of both branches going from a branch to a club format.
This has become more likely as both branches are having difficulty attracting younger members to keep the branches operational.
With a club format there is less formality and fewer office bearers, with a liaison officer only, and record keeping is kept to a minimum.
Both branches will now consult with their existing members to see how they feel about the proposal.
Hopefully it will mean both the branches will have a presence in their towns and continue the work and the good name of Red Cross which has existed in Wingham and Tinonee for more than 80 years.
Wingham Anglican Parish
Last Sunday morning’s service was conducted by Reverend Gillian Jones, assisted by Sue Prentice, as Reverend Brian was enjoying a short break.
Congregation members are reminded the Parish’s annual general meeting has been set down for Friday, March 5, at 6.30pm in the Fellowship Hall.
This year’s World Day of Prayer will be celebrated at the Wingham Catholic Church on Friday, March 1, from 10am.
The service has been prepared by the Christian Women of Slovenia.
Tinonee Hall
The monthly meeting of Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall was on Monday, February 11, with president Jan Hayden in the chair and six members in attendance.
It was great to have vice president Helen Moore back with us after some months absence due to a nasty fall that injured her leg and kept her confined to her home.
Helen still needs a crutch to get about, however, so it will be some time before she is fully mobile.
Committee members discussed the possibility of having a Mother’s Day market.
Also discussed was the hosting by hall members of a luncheon during a visit by participants in the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival tour of the region towards the end of May.
Local residents are reminded voting in the NSW state election, set down for March 23, will be conducted at the hall.
Tinonee Historical Society
All members, and those interested, are welcome to attend the February meeting of the society at Tinonee Museum, 32 Manchester Street, on Thursday, February 28, at 7.30pm.
