The club held its AGM at the local hall on Monday February 11 with a good roll up of members to witness a changing of the guard.

George is currently the National president of The Garden Clubs of Australia and with another two to three years in this role he felt it was only fair to himself and the membership to step aside. In his role as national president, he already has another busy year planned ahead, accepting invitations to visit to all six states plus the ACT before the end of June.

“I have served Killabakh Garden Club for 15 years as president and I feel it is time to hand on the baton," George said.

“I have enjoyed immensely my years as president and feel I have contributed greatly to the life of the club, its structure and culture. I am very proud of the club, where it is today and I am privileged to have worked with a tremendous committee for all those years.” 

In his final duty as club president, George had the honour of presenting long time club member and secretary, Liz Cross with The Garden Clubs of Australia Ann Williams Clark Medallion for Outstanding Service by a member to a club.

Liz joined the club in 1993, is a past president and long-time committee member.

Also retiring from committee after 12 years was club treasurer Pam Holmes, who was awarded Life Membership for her contribution to the club.

On the day, the members enjoyed a delicious morning tea, barbecue lunch and a photo presentation on the previous year’s activities.

A new committee was elected with Life Member Heather Scarr taking on the president’s role.

In his closing remarks, George Hoad thanked “each and every member of the club for 15 fabulous years, wished the club continued success and to every member - a bloomin’ beautiful gardening year!”
