The project is funded with $5000 from the federal government, $2000 from MidCoast Council and $4000 in a cash and kind contribution from the Friends of the Gallery.
When complete, the new decking and bar area will incorporate a new glass washer, more storage trays and storage bench with larger opening swinging door for ease of service.
“I’m absolutely delighted this project is now underway,” Dr Gillespie said.
“It will really make the outdoor area in the back courtyard of the gallery a great place for community functions and events.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate art gallery director Rachel Piercy and her team, together with the Friends of the Gallery and MidCoast Council, on a wonderful project, which will significantly improve and enhance this important local facility.”
Dr Gillespie said the project would lead to an improved overall experience, with more user friendly facilities, particularly for the many volunteers and community groups who use the gallery.
The federal funding has been made available under the latest funding round of the Stronger Communities program.
