Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair, Shadow Minister Mick Veitch, Justin Field (Greens) and Robert Borsak (Shooters, Fishers and Farmers) spoke at the forum and fielded questions on right to farm, milk prices, drought support, climate change and Q fever.
NSW Farmers President James Jackson said, “One of the key questions on the night came from a local dairy farmer asking what each party would do about $1 per litre retail milk being sold in major supermarkets.”
“All speakers agreed again that $1 per litre milk is simply not sustainable and that the major supermarkets must not use fresh milk as a loss leader.” “NSW Farmers dairy committee has repeatedly called on the supermarkets to end $1 per litre milk and work with dairy farmers for a fair milk price.”
