According to the latest Domain Rental Report, the Manning (listed as Greater Taree) was the fifth cheapest area to rent a house, with a median rent of $340 per week, and the second cheapest area to rent a unit, at a median of $240.
House rent prices in the Manning showed a zero increase in the past 12 months and a 16.2 per cent increase over the past five years, while unit rental dropped by four per cent in the past year but rose 18.5 per cent over the five year period.
On the housing rental list, Cowra, south west of Bathurst, was the cheapest at $250, followed by Young $270, Upper Hunter Shire $300 and Albury $320.
Wagga Wagga ($340), Armidale Dumaresq ($345), Bathurst Regional ($350), Dubbo ($350) and Richmond Valley ($350) concluded the list.
On the unit rental list, Albury was the cheapest at $200, followed by the Manning and Wagga Wagga on $240, Goulburn Mulwaree and Tamworth Regional on $245, Armidale Dumaresq on $250, Bathurst Regional and Dubbo on $252,50, Orange on $265 and Richmond Valley on $270.
The report, which covers the December quarter 2018, suggested Sydney renters looking for a tree change could find a house for half the price in some regional towns.
“While the NSW capital is no longer the most expensive city in the nation for tenants, with house rents falling for the first time in 12 years and the city losing its title to Canberra, asking rents remain sky-high at a median of $540 a week,” Domain reporter Tawar Razaghi said.
