Despite the hot conditions a large number of shooters arrived at the club and were ready to start the new year with a good score at the 300 metre range.
After the stifling temperatures of 42 degrees experienced by shooters at the 1000 yard range last Saturday, most felt this week’s relatively cool 37 degree predicted temperature would make for better shooting conditions.
However, this was not to be with lower than usual scores posted across the board. Regardless, members were happy to be back on the range and shooting after the Christmas break.
The Club is experiencing a resurgence of shooters in the F Open Class division this year making it a very competitive discipline. The outstanding leader of the group is Roden Lohse. Lohse is an excellent Open Class competitor who has been providing assistance to new member Mark Ellis in this division. Ellis, who has been shooting for only a short time, is now posting consistently good scores and nudging closer to his mentor on a weekly basis.
Wingham Rifle Club has a wealth of experience amongst its members across all disciplines who are generous with their time in assisting new shooters.
Junior shooter Dante Novac, has recently started attending the range with his father Alex Novac, another new member to the Wingham Club. Both shoot in the F Standard B Grade division and run a competition between themselves each week. Yesterday Dante took home bragging rights by only two centres finishing with a score of 105 and three centres to his father’s 105 and one centre.
Roden Lohse again took home the win in F Open on a tally of 114 and seven centres followed closely by Christina Adams on 111 and six centres to narrowly nudge out Mark Ellis with a final score of 111 and three centres. Ellis was the winner of the afternoon’s handicap event.
Duncan Robinson was pleased with his score of 112 and six centres to take home the win in F Standard B Grade, followed by Dante Novac whom he was coaching on the line.
Robert Bartlett was the standout performer in F Standard A Grade with Tony Moon, Damien Doyle and Raymond Yea each taking home wins in the Target Rifle A, B and C grades respectively.
Next week shooters move to the 400 metre range.
