The post Christmas T20 double header at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday, December 27 was brimming with a strong flavour of the Mid Coast.
In the day’s opening contest from the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), Wingham’s Maitlan Brown starred for the Melbourne Renegades against the Sydney Sixers.
Unfazed by the likes of bowling powerhouses Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner and Marizanne Kapp, Brown showed her all-rounder credentials with a solid 33 from 30 balls.
This was the Renegades’ top score for the innings and included one four and one six.
The side finished 8/110.
Brown backed it up as a first rotation bowler for the Sixers’ reply.
She finished 0/19 from 2.1 overs.
The Sixers chased down the score with 5.5 overs to spare.
Brown was in action January 3 against Hobart Hurricanes in Geelong.
Meanwhile, Taree product Nick Larkin continued an impressive run of recent form for the Melbourne Stars against the Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL).
Larkin batted at three in the Stars innings and made a respectful 20 from 22 balls before being caught by Sixers captain Moises Henriques.
The Stars chased down the 130 target set by the Sixers with 5.1 overs to spare.
Larkin has impressed the cricket world with early season performances for the Stars.
He earned a last minute call-up to the squad following an untimely arm injury to Nic Maddinson on the eve of the season start.
Larkin has already added much needed depth to the Stars top order and boasts other strong performances against the Hurricanes and Thunder.
Larkin came into the season with BBL experience after turning out for the Sixers last season.
The Stars played Thunder on January 5.
