With an ATAR score of 80.95, Isaiah can accept an offer from the University of Newcastle and take his place on the Bachelor of Mathematics course in 2019.
“He’s pretty relieved,” said mum Sarah.
Despite being one of Wingham High School’s best mathematics students, Isaiah has been worried since completing his HSC exams.
He was concerned his English result would make his overall ATAR score too low to make it into his chosen course which required a score of 80.
“His brain just isn’t wired for English and he had to work really hard to achieve what he has. We’re very proud of him.” Sarah added.
Scoring highest on the ATARs at Wingham High School was Luke Percival with 81.85 followed by Paige Webster with 81.75.
Isaiah and Luke were also listed as Distinguished Achievers on the 2018 HSC Student Honour Roll.
Three students from Wingham High achieved a mark of 90 or above in a specific HSC subject.
Isaiah made the list for his HSC result in Mathematics Extension 1.
Luke (Industrial Technology) and Taj Greaves (Design and Technology).
NSW HSC students found out their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) – the rank NSW and ACT universities use to select school leavers for their courses – on Friday the day after the HSC results were released.
For some the results were not so good.
“There are some kids who will be disappointed,” Wingham High School’s career adviser Shirley Clissold said.
“But they need to know that there are lots of other pathways they can take.
“I tell the students ‘it’s only a number, it’s not going to define you.’”
