One of the drivers coming to the Red Cross luncheon last Wednesday had a near miss on Nowendoc Road.
A vehicle going towards Wingham made it necessary for her to go as far off the road as possible in quite a dangerous spot. She was still a little shaken when she arrived at the hall.
Everyone is in such a hurry to get where they are going they can make a slight mistake which could have dire results for them or someone else so we need to be vigilant when we use the road.
It will only get worse as Christmas approaches, I’m afraid, so please take extra care as you drive.
Despite that near miss the luncheon was once again a great success.
The first order of the day was the concert by the school children. We all love to have them perform for us and we expected the obligatory Christmas carols and songs, percussion band with maybe a guitar or two included or even a play.
But we were blown away by the great improvement in their performance. We had no idea just how much their talents had developed under the tutelage of their music teacher.
Not all teachers are experts in all fields of education but they do their best with specialist subjects like drama, music, PE, sport and science in the smaller schools.
To have a specialist come and help must be wonderful. We had a keyboard solo, two solo singers, a much improved choir, a percussion group from lower division and upper division even have a school band now.
Well done, children! You really surprised us. None of us knew there was so much talent in our school.
Many thanks to all who did the preparation in the food department. A great big thank you to all our guests from other Red Cross groups who supported our function.
Everyone went home with a gift from our Santa table and lucky door prizes. There were big smiles when wishing each other seasons greetings and promising to continue the volunteer work we do for Red Cross next year.
The only blight on the horizon is the planned power outage on Thursday, December 29, when Essential Energy warns there is to be a power outage from 8.30am until 3pm.
They have apologised and, as it is for improvements to the network, we will forgive them.
This could be a good day to take the children, whose holidays begin on December 19, out to the movies, or to finish their Christmas shopping, or perhaps go to the beach for a picnic, so they don’t forget and open the fridge, want to use the computer or some such, as they inevitably do on such occasions.
