Under 12’s
After a good win last weekend against Tinonee, Wingham travelled to Old Bar and after losing the toss were sent into bat.
Wingham lost an early wicket before a big partnership between Ryan Hughes (51no) and Drew Gosper (30rt) set the team up for a big score.
Riley Lane (17) came in and sent the ball flying to all parts of the ground, with Charlie Pereira (14) and Lachlan Dawson (10no) continuing the big hitting, finding the boundary on several occasions.
After 25 overs Wingham were 6-162.
The Wingham bowlers found it hard to control the ball with the Old Bar breeze picking up late in the morning, but in the end with the help of some nice run-outs got the job done.
Charlie Pereira chimed in with three wickets, Mason Staff 2 and Kaden Lane with the help of Bailey Timmins combined for 1 of 3 run-outs. Old Bar were all out 8-119.
Next game: Wingham v Forster
Under 10 Sixers vs Under 10 Thunder
For the first time this season the two Under 10 Wingham sides faced each other in what promised to be an exciting local derby.
The Sixers won the toss and batted first. Both sides got off to modest starts with the Sixers scoring 37 runs from the first 10 overs, with Arabella Roohan contributing 5 and Angus Abbott 7. Hunter Lucas (3) along with Ned Crawford (31) then picked up the scoring rate to help ensure the Sixers made a competitive total of 121 from their 20 overs.
The Thunder’s Rylie Murray (4/8) jagged three wickets in a superb first over, while Gus Loretan continued his good form returning 3/21. Jaeda Gallagher and Shawn Griffin took a wicket each, with Shawn also running out the Sixers batsmen on an incredible six occasions. Jack Wheatley was also in the action, taking a good catch as keeper.
Just like the Sixers the Thunder top order found batting difficult in the first 10 overs with 34 runs scored.
Gus Loretan then blasted a blistering 30, which included a huge six over square leg along with four boundaries. Not to be outdone Shawn Griffin (22) and Rylie Murray (19no) ensured an entertaining completion of the innings, which saw the Thunder achieve 8/195 including bonus runs from their 20 overs.
Ned Crawford was the best of the Sixers bowlers with 2/7 from three overs. Anwar Ali chipped in with 1/21 from his three overs while Kobi Lucas took his first wicket of the season with 1/7. The Sixers tried hard in the field with Ned and Arabella both executing two runouts a piece.
Both teams were able to enjoy some pre-Christmas cheer with a special visitor at the completion of the match (see photo).
In the final round before the Christmas break this season the Sixers meet the Taree West Strikers, while the Thunder should have a tough tussle against the Taree West Heat.
