Army and Navy Cadets, Wingham Scouts and young band musicians, all provided special services which ensured the success of the September 2018 Commemoration Diggers Ball, held at the Wingham Memorial Town Hall.
Also at the Town Hall, more than 150 students from five local schools recited poetry and performed unsurpassed choral and musical tributes at the peace concert on Armistice Day.
Wingham High School captains delivered inspiring speechs at the earlier commemoration service that morning.
Fund raising for community events can be challenging.
Diggers ball committee member Patti Downs worked hard to pre-sell raffle tickets for the ball, ably supported by her young sons, Frank and Jason.
The boys were enthusiastic helpers.
Their father Mick was in the Army for 18 years and deployed on multiple combat operations around the world, performing various roles.
The boys are very proud of their mum and dad.
In recognition of their fund raising efforts, they were recently presented with a miniature model of the vampire jet in Wingham`s Central Park, crafted by Mr John Wooldridge.
“The future is indeed in good hands when we have leaders and young people of such quality, willing and able to volunteer their time and skills,” say both diggers ball committee chair Mave Richardson and Wingham RSL Sub-branch president Terry Gould.
