When I realised a business trip to NSW was going to coincide with Les Misérables being performed by Taree Arts Council, I immediately bought a ticket online and I have to say that the logistics of getting to Taree were completely worth it.

What a world class performance, absolutely professional from an amateur theater group rehearsing in their own time.
Congratulations to director Gayle Cameron for directing this stellar performance.
Tim Gibbs as Jean Valjean, Rod Illidge as Javert, Mary Camphuis as Fantine and the energy and agility of David Stephens leaping about the place in a brilliantly portrayed Thenardier. In fact all of the cast were exceptional and when you got to hear some of the ensemble sing you realised that they too had the voices to sing a lead.
The orchestra, costumes, sets, backstage – all just magnificent.
You have set the bar even higher, Taree Arts Council, and as I write this at my desk in Darwin I wish I could be there to watch the whole thing again.
Exceptional performance!

Editor’s note: Paul Avery was in Sydney on business and visiting his parents in Newcastle, and made the trip to Taree specifically to see Taree Arts Council’s production of Les Misérables.
