President Judy Cluss and her members welcomed 60 guests to their 2018 Melbourne Cup Day Luncheon at Tinonee Memorial Hall on Tuesday November 6 and it was a ‘sea of blue colours’ in the outfits worn by the ladies and the three men present.
The tables took on a blue and white colour theme to mark the remarkable racing of ‘The Mighty Winx’, with white tablecloths, blue runners and serviettes.
Luncheon was buffet style with cold meats and salads, a glass of wine or orange juice finished off with fruit salad and ice-cream, tea or coffee.
Fashion of the field resulted in Anne Gribble of Wingham being selected the winner and she looked stunning in her blue outfit.
A raffle and several lucky door prizes were also on offer along with sweeps which saw quite a number being filled and some happy winners go home.
Many thanks to everyone who supported the event and to the members and friends, who worked hard to make it the great success that it was.
A reminder to members and those interested that the next meeting of the Tinonee Red Cross will be held on Tuesday November 27 commencing at 10am at the Tinonee Hall.
Twilight museum tours
President Jenny and member Pam welcomed 16 members and friends from St Luke’s Bible Study Group to Tinonee Museum on Tuesday evening at 7pm for the very first twilight tour of the museum and grounds.
All were interested in what the museum had on show, both inside and out, and were very complimentary.
Visitor Jack Weekes spoke about the school desk he used as a third class student at Tinonee Public School and is now housed at the museum.
The museum will look at offering more of these tours to small groups, especially for those who work during the day, throughout the summer months. If anyone is interested further details can be had by phoning 6553 1571.
This coming Saturday the museum will be holding a garage sale to help further the work of the museum and maintenance of the building and grounds.
The next meeting of the museum will be held on Thursday November 22 commencing at 7.30pm.
Friendship group
Tinonee RFS members Sue Odgers and Bert Bennett attended the monthly meeting of Tinonee Friendship Group last Wednesday and gave an informative presentation to the group of how to be prepared in case of bushfires and the services available to older folk to assist with clearing gutters etc.
The next gathering for the group will be their Christmas get together and it will be held Tuesday December 4, at Mansfield after having attended Tinonee Public School for their concert performance at 10am.
Remembrance Day
A day to remember, it started off for me with placing a floral tribute on behalf of Tinonee Red Cross on the Honour Roll at Tinonee Memorial Hall, then to church at St Luke’s before going to a special Remembrance Service at Wingham Uniting Church where Tinonee local Greg Walshe presented a guitar and vocal rendition of ‘You Seldom Come to See Me Anymore’ and once over I headed to Wingham Town Hall to be part of the RSL Remembrance Service conducted in beautiful sunshine and attended by a very large crowd.
All then moved inside and filled the Town Hall to attend the 1918-2018 Peace Concert which was brilliant.
With thanks to so many who participated from solos, choirs from schools, poetry, MV U3A Silver Tones Singers and the finale from Wingham Valley Pipes and Drums who brought the concert to a close.
The concert was the project of Ron Irwin, Wingham RSL Sub-branch vice president and assisted by his fellow sub-branch members under president Terry Gould with master of ceremonies George Hoad.
