Each year the Wingham Probus caravan group (although you don’t have to own a van) spends up to a week away for a time of ‘Friendship, Fellowship and Fun’ – the Probus motto. Recently the group journeyed to Mylestrom for this year’s getaway.

Mylestrom was used as a base for daily excursions exploring the Coffs Harbour area. Most people had arrived on the Sunday to settle in.
Monday was the trip to the Train Museum at Glenreagh where we were given a very informative talk about the romance of travelling by steam engines. Our members experienced a bit of nostalgia as they looked over and walked through the old carriages. The museum depends on volunteers to keep this facility opened to the public. An enjoyable lunch followed at the local pub.
The following days saw members visiting other points of interest within the local area. Not everyone did the same thing on the same day but at happy hour prior to dinner there was much joviality talking about the day’s activities.
Places that members visited were wineries, Urunga township, Bellingen markets, and Coffs Botanical Gardens, to name a few. Those members who visited The Bunker Cartoon Gallery were very impressed with this tourist attraction.
On the Saturday and Sunday members enjoyed watching the dragon boat races on the Bellinger River.
A great time was had by all, either exploring the local environs or just having down time at the caravan park.
Future activities for Probus include a luncheon at Jacaranda Winery in Wingham, a photography outing to Cattai Wetlands, attending the local production of Les Miserables and the club’s annual Christmas Lunch and Concert at Wingham Services Club.
New members are most welcomed to join this friendly, social group of retirees.
