After having lived in Tinonee for 44 plus years, it is great to finally see the small section of gravel road between Peveril and Winter streets sealed by the Midcoast Council.
I am sure the school bus that uses this road in the mornings and afternoons, along with the number of children who walk to and from school on it, will very much appreciate the better quality of surface.
It is hoped other vehicle users will not use it as a speedway as has been the case at times. With this sealing there is now only a small portion of the road to be done including from Cotton Street to Hutchinson Street below the school property.
Melbourne Cup Day Luncheon
A reminder bookings are being taken for Tinonee & District Red Cross Branch’s Annual Melbourne Cup Day Luncheon at Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall planned for the big day on Tuesday, November 6, commencing at noon with a buffet lunch for a cost of $20 per person.
This year’s colour theme is blue and white in honour of the mighty Winx. For further details, contact president Judy Cluss on 6553 1450 or secretary Pam Muxlow 6553 1055 to make your bookings before November 1.
Back to school
Term 3 began on Tuesday and it is hoped staff and students all had a great time during their holidays despite the showery conditions at times. I am sure no one would have minded as we certainly needed the moisture. Thankfully we have received some here in Tinonee and it is great to see the gardens and lawns turning green again. Most of the dams have received a much needed top-up too.
Annual Carols
A meeting was scheduled for last night, Tuesday, to start planning for the Carols in the Park at Tinonee. I hope to have some details from the meeting in next week’s column.
Twigs visit
Members of Wingham Anglican Parish’s TWIGS Group took the mini bus to Newcastle this morning, Wednesday, at 8am, to visit the Mission to Seafarers. They will enjoy tea and coffee at the Seafarers.
A date has been set down for the Carols in the Bush under the stars at St. Mark’s Marlee. It will be Sunday, December 16. For those who haven’t been to one of these nights it is a truly uplifting celebration in the lovely bush setting of St. Mark’s. A supper is provided after the service.
Family get-together
Husband John and three of his four surviving brothers had his pre-birthday party at the Wingham Services Club on Saturday. Unfortunately eldest brother Doug was unable to attend, due to a hospital visit, but he is alright now. The brothers shared a few great memories of times gone by over drinks and nibbles.
