Courtney Robertson has been crowned the 2018 Taree Showgirl.

The 21-year-old said she was very grateful to receive the sash, which was presented by The Land Sydney Royal Easter Show winner for 2018, Nikki Gibbs from Wauchope, during Taree Show’s official opening proceedings.

“I look forward to working with the Taree Show Society and the community in the upcoming months and thank you for the opportunity,” said Courtney.

“Thank you to Taree Show Society for putting on a great event.”

Courtney, born and bred in Rainbow Flat, is studying a bachelor of nursing in Newcastle and has been on placement at Manning Hospital.

On completion of her nursing degree, Courtney plans to take on a bachelor of midwifery, before forging a career in the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

She has competed regularly in equestrian events at shows across the region for most of her life and did Taree Show with a filly her family bred over Christmas.

She sees value in the show, saying they bring everyone together.

“It’s a chance to give back to the community and for everyone to show what they have to offer. Everyone gets involved.”

Courtney said with university and two jobs keeping her busy, she was looking forward to getting back into the community and saw Showgirl as a way to do that.

“Showgirl is something I’ve always wanted to do, a few of my close friends have done it in different show societies and it seems like a really good to experience as it helps with confidence and public speaking.

“I am looking forward to being challenged by it and also I’m hoping it will get me back into the show scene and the community.”

Next month Courtney travels to Dubbo for a personal development weekend where she will meet other showgirls. She will then represent Taree at the zone showgirl judging at Mullumbimby in February.
