Christine Adams is broke her own record at the Wingham Rifle Club's 700 yard range.

WINGHAM Rifle Range was a little damp underfoot after receiving over 60mms of welcome rain on Friday and Saturday morning.

However, a hard core group of members lined up on the 700 yard mound for a club championship round on Saturday afternoon.

After some initial discussion on whether to abandon the day, the flags were raised, the targets put up and the skies cleared for just long enough to shoot the championship round.

For the second time in as many weeks a range record was broken by another female Wingham shooter. This time, Christina Adams, who already held the range record in F Open for stage one at 700 yards at 59 and three centres, broke her own record to record a blistering stage one score of 59 and seven centres.

Roden Lohse also broke the 700-yard F open aggregate record with a two stage score of 115.9. The current crop of Wingham members is re-writing the range records on a regular basis of late.

In target rifle B-grade Andrew Geary shot a combined total of 97 with 10 centres to win.

Geary’s score was also better than any of the target rifle A-grade scores on the day – Geary’s time in B Grade is definitely limited.

After spending weeks on load development Duncan Robinson has made a welcome return to F Standard B-grade to take home the win with a two stage score of 105 and four centres. New member and novice shooter Alex Novac was a close second with an excellent score of 102 and 3 centres.

Club captain Chris Barnard continues to be the runaway contender in F Standard A-grade and posted the best F Class score of the day with 116 and 11 centres.

Meanwhile, Mal McKenzie and Robert Bartlett competed in the Queens State Titles in Sydney in appalling conditions with rain-washing out the entire first day of competition and reduced ranges being shot on the following days.

Next week club competition moves to the 800-yard range.
