An easy way to remember which way to set your clock – spring forward (in spring) fall back (in autumn).
You set your clock forward 1 hour in the spring when DST starts (= lose 1 hour), and back 1 hour when DST ends in the fall (= regain 1 hour).
Daylight saving will end on Sunday, April 7, 2019.
In line with daylight saving, Manning residents and visitors are being encouraged to jump on board MidCoast Council’s summer water savers program by winding water usage back as clocks are brought forward this Sunday, October 7 for the official start to daylight saving.
"MidCoast Council’s summer water savers program applies throughout daylight saving to reduce the amount of water we use during the warmer months, and applies to households, businesses, parks, gardens and sporting grounds," water services director, Brendan Guiney said.
The program’s main message is simple - don’t spray in the middle of the day!
All fixed hoses, sprinklers and microspray systems should not be used during the hottest part of the day – between 9am and 4pm.
Supporting the summer water saving program will not only help water supplies, it is also more effective for gardens.
Watering during the heat of the day is inefficient as the water evaporates before the plants have a chance to benefit from it – wasting water and money. Watering gardens in the cooler hours of the day instead is far more effective.
