Tickets to its screening at Manning Entertainment Centre on August 24 quickly sold out, as did the film premiere at the Sydney Film Festival in June. The community also recently celebrated the news that ‘Teach a Man to Fish’ was a finalist for the Documentary Australia Foundation Award and a runner-up in the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary.

Grant is thrilled to be able to share the documentary with his community at Old Bar Beach Festival on Friday, September 28. The film follows his journey of coming home after being away for more than half his life and using fishing as a way to reconnect with his father Ray, his family, his Biripi country and his town. The film will screen at the Old Bar Surf Club outdoor cinema after the 6pm family movie, ‘Monster Family’.
Thousands of people will visit Old Bar this weekend to experience the festival that is nationally celebrated by the growing community of kombi owners who make the annual pilgrimage to take part in the kombi display, parade and record attempt. On Saturday afternoon the kombis will assemble on Old Bar Air Strip and then drive on Old Bar Road to the Pacific Highway roundabout and back – it is a spectacular sight and the main street of Old Bar fills with spectators for the parade.
On Sunday the kombi owners will again gather to try to set the record for the highest number of vehicles in one place.

The Kev Lee Memorial Single Fin Contest starts early on Saturday, the festival also runs mega markets over the two days and offers an abundance of stage entertainment.
Families love to take part in the Light the Night Leukaemia Foundation Lantern Walk which starts an hour before the Saturday night firework display. On Sunday Old Bar Little Athletics will host a 5km fun run, there will be an air show and for footy fans, the surf club will host a beer, burger and grand final footy night.
