Wingham fire captain David O’Donnell said the the Isuzu 700 four wheel drive has many new features including enhanced cabin protection and the capacity to carry 3000 litres of water.
“This will greatly assist our fire fighting capabilities,” David said.
The tanker has already been hard at work with local crews kept busy last weekend.
The hot weather saw several fires break out locally.
Wingham Fire and Rescue assisted Taree Fire and Rescue fight a grass bush fire at Bushland Drive.
They also assisted several Rural Fire Service units with a large grass bush fire at Nowendoc Road just past the Mount George turn off.
