Club Championship round August 25
The Club Championship round was at the 800-metre range on Saturday in good shooting conditions. There was excellent cloud cover, which kept the mirage at bay and a gentle right to left wind running at about eigh miles per hour.

Whilst the first stage did see some variations in the wind conditions, this did not deter Target Rifle B Grade shooter Barry White who shot the only ‘possible’ of 50 with seven centres for this stage. White is in excellent form after his recent trip to Queensland to compete in the annual Brisbane Queens Championship.
During the second stage of the event the breeze was almost non-existent and this was evidenced by ‘possible’ scores being recorded by Andrew Geary in Target Rifle B Grade, Roden Lohse in F Open and Wingham’s new club captain Chris Barnard in F Standard A Grade.
After two stages it was only centres that separated shooters in Target Rifle B Grade with Barry White taking home the win on 99 with 14 centres just ahead of Andrew Geary on 99 and nine centres. Both White and Geary are shooting well above B Grade scores and in many cases posting closing scores that are better than A Grade! I can’t see them in B Grade next year but only time will tell.
Craig Laurie was the day’s winner in Target Rifle C Grade with a personal best final tally of 90 and six centres. After recently switching from F Standard to Target Rifle Class, Laurie seems to have found his niche and is improving every week.
Meanwhile, the other member of the Laurie household, Suzi Laurie, was the run-away winner in F Standard B Grade with a six point margin over her nearest competitor.
Brisbane Queens Championship
In other news Barry White, Christina Adams, Duncan Robinson and Robert Bartlett all travelled to Brisbane recently to compete in the annual Brisbane Queens Championship held at the Belmont Shooting Complex in Brisbane.
The competition is a marathon event, with the Queens and the lead-up event running over 16 events in a five day period. Distances shot ranged from 300 yards to 1000 yards. The Belmont range is a huge complex with 24 targets running on each range and over 200 competitors for the event. The range is very open and the longer distances, particularly the 900 and 1000 yard ranges are notorious for the challenging wind conditions and this year was no exception.
By the end of the weeks’ shooting, the Wingham members were pleased with their efforts and carried home a range of medals and badges.
This was Christina Adams’ second Queens event. Her personal goal was to place in the top 10 in Target Rifle B Grade and was pleased to achieve a seventh placing in both the Queens and the Grand Aggregate events.
Next week Wingham shooters move to the 300-metre range.
